We’re looking for a founding full-stack engineer to help us accelerate the pace of scientific discovery.

Our stack is primarily React, Next.js and Javascript/Typescript. And we’re updating parts of the back-end to Python. You should have familiarity with building + improving a high-quality well-designed web app in production.

In this role, you’ll:

Improve Unriddle by shipping product features, fixing bugs and removing technical debt.
Move fast but polish things -- we deeply care about good design but we don’t let this slow us down.
Develop strong opinions, be able to communicate them and turn them into features.
Build internal tools to automate non-product work. We do this a lot.
As a founding member of the team, you'll make a significant impact as we rapidly scale revenue from $1M to $10M and then $10M to $100M+.

You’re likely a good fit if you:

Have independently built and scaled a product to at least a few thousand users (e.g. a side project or open-source project).
Have worked in a high-growth, fast-paced environment (ideally another startup) and can drive things forward with relatively little oversight.
Bonuses:

About the Role

Building upon Reverse ETL’s ability to use SQL to sync to any SaaS tool, Customer Studio is Hightouch’s second major product that provides a purpose-built no-code suite of features that enables anyone, regardless of their SQL experience, to activate data directly from their warehouse. Despite being a small team (3 engineers, 1 PM, 1 designer), Customer Studio is our fastest growing product and already accounts for nearly half of our revenue, which also gives this role the potential to have significant impact!

We’re looking to add a product-minded backend engineer to the team. The ideal candidate will be comfortable diving deep into backend and distributed systems and think holistically about architecture, scalability, maintainability, and reliability. We also are looking for someone with strong customer and product thinking and who feels comfortable writing and engaging with product specs.

Some of the problems we’ll be working on include:

Data Warehouse Performance: We’re consistently pushing the limits of what data warehouses can handle in terms of speed, performance, and interactivity. We explore optimizations generally (e.g. optimizing queries, storing pre-computed state), as well as investigate warehouse-specific improvements.
Analytics and Experimentation: How can Hightouch help customers build segments and decide what data they want to sync? How can we facilitate experimentation to downstream tools, including tracking the performance of different audiences?
Real-time Audience Syncing: Our users are always interested in faster syncing and fresher data. As warehouses become more real-time and adopt technologies like CDC, we’re excited to explore real-time audience computation and syncing.
Generative AI: We’re continuously working on making the user experience of acting on data more seamless, and are optimistic generative AI can enhance user workflows.

We are looking for talented, intellectually curious, and motivated individuals who are interested in tackling the problems above. This is a senior role, but we focus on impact and potential for growth more than years of experience. The salary range for this position is $170,000 - $240,000 USD per year, which is location independent in accordance with our remote-first policy.

Interview Process

Our interview process focuses on evaluating fit for the most important dimensions of the role: product sense, ability to architect backend and distributed systems, and alignment with Hightouch’s values. Notably, we don’t do any programming interviews as we believe they are low signal to noise and aren’t a good evaluation mechanism.

Intro Call [15-30m]: Introductory call with either a member of our recruiting team or the hiring manager to get to know each other and see if the role could be a good mutual fit.
System Design Screen [60m]: Designing a feature end-to-end, including touching the database, API, web frontend, and data warehouse.
Product Sense Interview [60m]: Coming up with potential product and feature ideas in response to customer requirements. Focuses primarily on product solutioning with some technical analysis in determining the feasibility of ideas.
System Design Interview [90m]: Work with the interviewer to architect a system at a conceptual level. The problem will be at a pretty high level - and have both product and customer requirements as well as technical.

What you’ll do

You will own and ship products.

You’ll talk to customers throughout the day over Slack/Teams, video and phone calls.
You’ll listen to their needs and develop a plan based on the highest priority items.
You’ll ship code to execute on the plan. We put new code into production multiple times per day.
We’ll do this every day, together, in person, because we understand that every minute counts in the early days of a startup. This is going to be intense early-stage startup work; the person we hire is expected to become a leader and help form the company’s vision and culture.

Our tech

We have a fully serverless backend built on top of AWS, consisting of a collection of Go microservices. We use React/Typescript to build client applications across web, desktop, and mobile. We create our own RAG pipelines.

Day in the life

As the founding engineer, every day you’ll need to build fast and well with a laser focus on customer impact. Here’s a typical day:

9:30 AM. Lead a call with a managing partner at a law firm (“KAJ Law”) that recently started using PointOne. They ask if our system integrates with Slack, but it does not. After the call, you draft a plan for the new feature—depending on the priority, you might target a same-day turnaround.
11:27 AM. As we’re working, we see that we’re running into a capacity issue causing a slowdown for some users. All hands on deck to figure out what’s going on and resolve the issue.
2:43 PM. Slack communication feature is complete. Deploy new code and email the team at KAJ Law to let them know about the new capability.
3:00 PM. Lead a new-customer onboarding call, taking note of the user’s reaction to the product.
5:45 PM. Team dinner. We chat about life, news, work, etc.
6:23 PM. With the big hurdles of the day overcome, time to go heads down to architect the intelligence layer on our new analytics product.

PointOne is building the admin automation stack for the legal industry. Lawyers have to track and record all their time in 6 minute increments, then spend hours at the end of the month reviewing and editing client bills. Many lawyers describe this as the worst part of their job. # About the role

As an early engineer, you’ll work on building our cloud product from the ground up.

The core responsibility of this role is improving our playground for AI agents to write and test code. You’ll solve problems like:

- How can we discover the dependencies and requirements for running unit tests on a repository, even if there’s no configuration written?
- How do we efficiently fork a running cloud instance to try two alternative migration strategies in parallel?
- How can we build a caching file system to make it faster to check out repositories on new machines, without keeping permanent copies of customer code?
- How do we stream results back to customers with minimal latency to allow live monitoring and intervention?

 We prioritize moving quickly and can usually finish the whole process in 2-3 weeks. All candidates go through these steps:
 
 - **Initial phone call** with [Morgante](https://www.linkedin.com/in/morgante/) or another founding engineer. In this call (30m), we will focus on understanding your background and making sure there’s a high-level match.
 - The **first technical interview** will focus on solving a challenging problem we’ve had to solve in the course of building Grit. This interview focuses on coding (bring an environment you are very comfortable in and expect to share your screen).
 - The **second technical interview** will focus more on general problem solving and algorithms for solving the kinds of systems engineering problems we work on at Grit. Also expect to code in this interview.
 - After the technical interviews, we move to a **paid work trial** (similar to [Linear’s](https://linear.app/blog/why-and-how-we-do-work-trials-at-linear)). This can be anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks and provides you an additional opportunity to see what working at Grit would work like. We can work around your schedule to set up this work trial, including doing it on a weekend.

We use voice synthesis, generative AI, and integrations with logistics systems to solve the largest cost in this industry - people.When Uber Freight needs to ship a truckload of Coca-Cola going from Phoenix to Bentonville. They can use FleetWorks to call the driver to get an ETA, alert the receiver and shipper that the driver is running late, and reschedule the appointment - all with automated text messages, phone calls, and emails.❌ THE PROBLEM:Getting freight from point A to point B is still largely handled by humans. Digitized brokers have driven automation, but most day-to-day operations are still handled over phone and email between millions of humans around the world. Given this overhead, freight brokerages operate on low single-digit margins.Three roles in a freight brokerage spend a significant part of their day on repetitive tasks:<ol><li>Track and trace agents → Identify loads that are not being tracked automatically via apps, telematics, or aggregators. They reach out via phone or email to the driver or dispatcher for an update.</li><li>Load coverage and carrier sales → Handle inbound/outbound calls to/from trucking companies that are interested to book loads. Information like weight, commodity, and appointment time is shared. Then the parties negotiate on price.</li><li>Appointment schedulers → Set appointment times for unscheduled loads by calling or emailing facilities, or logging into customer portals. Due to unforeseen issues, 20-30% of appointments need to be rescheduled at the last minute resulting in even more work.</li></ol>✨ OUR SOLUTION:FleetWorks sits alongside a broker’s phone, email, and transportation management system (TMS). Calls and emails can be triggered automatically or manually, and relevant information is automatically pushed to the TMS or email for operators to take action.FleetWorks can automatically<ol><li>Book loads: Share load details, discuss price, and book the carrier.</li><li>Track loads: Call the driver and update the account team on issues.</li><li>Schedule appointments: Email or call facilities that don’t have a booking portal.</li></ol>💲 THE OPPORTUNITY:There are 150 large brokers in the U.S. (&gt;$100M gross revenue) and they are taking share from small brokers. We are seeking an experienced &amp; entrepreneurial senior backend engineer to join the founding team to help build our backend services and platform. You'll partner with our CTO to help make key architectural decisions, iterate on the roadmap, own product decisions, and architect &amp; build our foundational tech platform to enable scaling over the next several years.

Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

We are seeking an experienced & entrepreneurial senior backend engineer to join the founding team to help build our backend services and platform. You'll partner with our CTO to help make key architectural decisions, iterate on the roadmap, own product decisions, and architect & build our foundational tech platform to enable scaling over the next several years.

About You:

Voracious learner. You love diving into new areas and exploring new languages, databases, and technologies, and can discuss API design one minute and deployment infrastructure pipelines with tech leads the next.

Value clear communication. You recognize the importance of clear communication, documented planning, and transparent, frequent feedback.

Sweat the small stuff. You have strong opinions on design patterns, IDEs, tabs vs. spaces—you understand that how you do one thing is how you do everything, so you care about the details.

Deep experience building distributed systems. You have designed and built performant, scalable applications, and have expertise in developing APIs, data modeling, optimizing database queries, and scaling distributed systems.

You Will:

Architect and lead the development of our applications, APIs, and distributed systems

Architect & document our tech platform and advise key product & infrastructure decisions

Implement our CI/CD workflows, using Docker & Github

Build analytics & monitoring to help understand our user experience & application health

Contribute in a ton of other ways to a scrappy founding team building the future of flexible light industrial staffing!

You Have:

5+ years experience with Typescript/Node.js or Python, RabbitMQ or Kafka, and PostgreSQL or equivalent

A track record of shipping scalable distributed systems

Experience building APIs

Experience with Docker, Github Actions, and Datadog

Experience working in an early-stage engineering team, working through ambiguity, and being a self-starter

## About the role

Arch is looking for a **Senior Software Engineer** to join the team and help us in our mission. As an early software engineer at Arch, **you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and delivering many new products**, — from [Zero to One](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_to_One). Your technical expertise will inform and shape the future of our technology stack and the processes we use to support it. As we continue to scale our company, there will be opportunities to manage and lead others.

## **Key tasks and responsibilities**

- Scope out and build new products in our suite of financial services.
- Designing software system architecture and implement scalable (web) services, applications, and APIs.

## **Qualifications and experience [requirements]**

- 5+ years of experience writing high-quality production code at a venture-backed startup or top technology company.
- Proficiency in Typescript and good understanding of the modern JS/TS development toolchain.
- Experience creating continuous integration and release workflows.
- Experience building robust software systems (reusability, logging, monitoring, testing)
- Cloud know-how (we use AWS for a chunk of our stack)
- Self-directed and comfortable working autonomously

## Bonus points

- Experience in fintech
- Building auditable systems as we will go through security and financial audits in the future such as SOC II and more
- Familiarity with basic blockchain functionality (token vs native), smart contracts (at least understand how they work at a high level)
