## About the role

Develop autonomous agents for solving different information extraction problems

Compensation
We’re building an all-star team and so want to be generous on compensation. Our philosophy is that base compensation is for living expenses and equity is for upside. So our compensation structure is a base salary competitive with other seed stage startups and generous equity relative to other startups. We know that part of the excitement of joining a startup is the upside and to feel like an owner - that’s why we left our corporate jobs.
Funding
We're cash flow positive, have never churned a customer, and are hiring to meet increased demand. We aren't beholden to any VCs, so we have more equity to give than if we'd already been diluted and can control the company direction. Worst case, we can always raise money if needed because we have a working model and are cash flow positive (we’ve already received investment offers). We help dentists get paid for the work they do. In this $165B market, our product simplifies the complex process of verifying insurance coverage, submitting claims, appealing denials, billing patients, and maintaining clean books. As a result of how complex this process is and how many things get lost in the process, dentists can lose 10-20% of their revenue!

What this leads to is the things patients hate about the American healthcare system: it’s **inefficient, unaffordable, and just too d*mn confusing**. We work with a lot of dentists and they don’t love it either. Dentists want to treat you, help you, and see you smile.

We are looking for a founding full-stack engineer to work alongside our co-founder and CTO. Responsibilities include:

Our stack is primarily React, Next.js and Javascript/Typescript. And we’re updating parts of the back-end to Python. You should have familiarity with building + improving a high-quality well-designed web app in production.

In this role, you’ll:

Improve Unriddle by shipping product features, fixing bugs and removing technical debt.
Move fast but polish things -- we deeply care about good design but we don’t let this slow us down.
Develop strong opinions, be able to communicate them and turn them into features.
Build internal tools to automate non-product work. We do this a lot.
As a founding member of the team, you'll make a significant impact as we rapidly scale revenue from $1M to $10M and then $10M to $100M+.

You’re likely a good fit if you:

Have independently built and scaled a product to at least a few thousand users (e.g. a side project or open-source project).
Have worked in a high-growth, fast-paced environment (ideally another startup) and can drive things forward with relatively little oversight.

Familiarity with AI and ML concepts, especially in the context of natural language processing and generative AI models.

As a founding engineer hire, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the core product. Help us become the single application where users go to find all work related information. This is an in-person role based in San Francisco, CA.

Building a consumer grade UI experience for our GenAI Chat, Enterprise Search, and Admin/Curation features
Improving the flexibility and quality of the search pipeline, building a semantic understanding of customer organizations, extending the current permission/access controls, and expanding the knowledge curation features
Own the entire development cycle of new features, from conception to production
Collaborate with founders to shape and influence the direction of the product and contribute to the engineering strategy

Have 1-5 years (or more) of software engineering experience building real-world applications

As our first Customer Engineer, you should expect to:

Act as the primary technical advisor to Danswer’s rapidly growing customer base, providing expert support and building strong relationships
Guide customers through their self-hosted deployments across different clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) and deployment methods (Docker Compose, Kubernetes, AWS ECS, Helm, etc.)
Debug and patch tricky, deployment-specific issues with customers
Contribute features to systematically eliminate common issue points during deployment
Create a seamless onboarding experience by developing comprehensive documentation that enables open-source users to easily deploy Danswer in their own cloud environments
Work with customers to find the best use cases for Danswer, maximizing our impact and value
Be the voice of the customer and bridge the gap between customers and product. Relay product insights and customer feedback to founders/engineering and help shape the direction of product
🚀 You’ll be successful in this role if you…
Have 2+ years of experience as a Customer Engineer / Solutions Engineer / Deployed Engineer at a enterprise facing software company OR have 2+ years of experience in DevOps / Software Engineering and have an interest in shifting to a more customer-facing role
Experience with Docker/Kubernetes, cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure), and on-prem/cloud deployments
Are a great multitasker, able to stay organized among competing priorities, and can pivot and adapt at a moment’s notice
Excellent communication skills, with a strong ability to collaborate with others (both teammates and external customers). Ability to explain complex engineering/infrastructure concepts and tradeoffs to customers in a simple way.
Experience working in a fast-moving startup and in small teams with minimal guidance.
