Augment Code builds AI-coding tools that help enterprise engineering orgs ship faster. Their tools are used by companies like Webflow, Spotify, and MongoDB.


Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Palo Alto, Augment Code has grown rapidly as companies have widely adopted AI-native coding workflows. They’ve raised $252 million from firms like Sutter Hill Ventures and Lightspeed.

Challenge: Scaling front-end talent to deliver key product initiatives

In less than a year, Augment Code has scaled from 70 to 175+ people. As Head of People and Talent, Marty plays a key role in making that growth possible.

Early hiring focused on back-end engineers to build a technically robust foundation that ensured scalability, performance, and security for Augment Code’s AI coding tools.


As models became commoditized and user experience became increasingly important, the team needed to layer in front-end engineering talent, including systems engineers with UI and implementation expertise. This shift would enable Augment Code to accelerate product delivery and double down on the product quality and usability that would set them apart in a crowded market.


But the team only had five recruiters covering engineering, research, and product hiring. So, Marty needed a fast, flexible way to scale hiring without lowering team standards or adding internal headcount.


And with Augment Code’s brand awareness still growing in a competitive market, inbound volume alone wasn't enough to hit hiring goals. The team needed to proactively tell their story to attract candidates who were technically aligned and bought into the mission.


To do this, Marty tested traditional sourcing tools. But list-building algorithms didn’t deliver consistent, qualified pipelines. He then began exploring Paraform as a potential solution.


Marty had reservations about working with external partners - particularly concerning maintaining high standards and overseeing the hiring process. He started small to assess candidate quality and interview performance - and to confirm he could keep control over pace and role priorities.

Paraform’s onboarding flow was quick and straightforward. Early alignment on role criteria made it easy to bring on the right recruiting partners fast.

To support Augment Code’s shift toward front-end talent, Paraform connected Augment Code’s talent team with hyper-specialized recruiters who were already specialized in the front-end engineering space. This instantly expanded sourcing capacity without adding internal headcount or managing multiple third party agencies.

By swiftly absorbing context, company culture, and hiring standards, recruiters surfaced candidates who were technically strong and aligned with Augment Code’s mission.


Paraform was also key in sharing Augment Code’s story within the developer community, building brand awareness, inbound interest, and referrals.


“They’ve gotten our brand name into many other good companies. Word is getting out that Augment is a great place to be.”


And with a consistent pipeline of qualified front-end talent, Marty and the talent team could focus more on growing the team instead of purely sourcing. And in turn, enabling the team to ship faster and improve their product during a critical growth period.
