Infrastructure/Platform Engineer

San Francisco, CA
$175K - $275K
About this role

We are looking for a Infrastructure & Platform Engineer with 3+ years of experience at high-growth startups to own the entire infrastructure layer of an agentic integration platform from the ground up. This is the first infrastructure hire – you'll work directly with the CTO to build the runtime, agent infrastructure, observability pipeline, and self-hostable deployment that powers mission-critical integrations for enterprise customers. You'll set the technical patterns that every future infra engineer builds on, and you'll help recruit and eventually lead the team. This role demands someone who thrives in fast, ambiguous environments and ships to production constantly.

What you will be doing

  • Owning the infra and platform layer end-to-end – building a "Vercel for integration runtime" with durable execution, sandboxed isolation, and self-healing capabilities

  • Building and scaling the agent infrastructure that powers coding agents writing, testing, and deploying integration code in production

  • Designing the observability layer that gives enterprise customers full visibility into their integrations and agents

  • Architecting and shipping a single-tenant, self-hostable build of the platform so customers can run it inside their own cloud

  • Helping hire and build out the infrastructure team – leveraging your network to bring in strong engineers and growing into a leadership role

About Temper

Temper is building the digital backbone for the real economy. The company is an agentic integration platform that uses specialized AI agents to automate the full lifecycle of system integrations: gathering requirements, generating integration code, testing it, deploying it, and keeping it alive in production. When something breaks, the agents fix it.

The physical economy (manufacturing, warehousing, trucking, and logistics) runs on highly customized ERP systems that were never designed to talk to each other. Every integration project traditionally requires expensive IT consulting firms (think Infosys, Cognizant, Accenture) to build custom connections by hand. Temper is building an AI-native version of a system integrator, replacing this entire service industry with intelligent agents.

  • Temper has paying enterprise customers, including some of the largest companies in world logistics (multi-billion dollar companies), with real integrations running in production today.

  • The company has raised $8.3M across two rounds and is in high-growth mode with more demand than they can keep up with.

Culture: Temper is an intense, fast-paced, in-person startup in San Francisco. The founders value hard work, independence, and craft. The team works 5 days a week in-office and embraces a high-intensity culture where input matters.

About the team

Temper is a team of ~5 people founded by operators who lived the integration problem firsthand. The three co-founders bring deep domain expertise:

  • Daniel (CPO) grew up in his family's trucking business and built the freight product at Europe's leading eCom logistics startup Hive from 0 to $M revenue.

  • Heinrich ran 100+ person warehouse operations at Amazon, then consulted on system integrations at KPMG. He built Hive's largest revenue line from zero.

  • Nick (CTO) is a hacker at heart: built software at 16, led an offensive security program for a nation-state, and scaled a company from 0 to $100M in 3 years.

Working at Temper means being part of a true early-stage experience: no management layers, high autonomy, and direct collaboration with the founders. The team works in-person 5 days a week in San Francisco (Jackson Square area), lunches together regularly, and operates at high intensity.

The product

Temper's product is an agentic integration platform-as-a-service (iPaaS) for the real economy. The platform uses specialized AI agents to handle the full integration lifecycle:

  • Requirements gathering: Agents collect integration requirements from users in plain English
  • Code generation: Agents automatically generate custom integration code
  • Testing: Agents test the integrations before deployment
  • Deployment: Agents deploy integrations to production
  • Self-healing: Agents monitor production integrations and automatically fix issues when something breaks

The platform serves the physical economy — manufacturing, warehousing, trucking, and logistics companies — that run on highly customized ERP systems. These companies need to exchange data with partners constantly, but their bespoke systems make every integration a costly service project. Temper replaces the traditional system integrator (companies like Infosys, Cognizant, or Accenture) with an AI-native solution.

Beyond integrations, Temper's vision extends to implementing custom software and building custom software from scratch — becoming an end-to-end AI system integrator for the real economy.
