About The Role

We’re seeking an entrepreneurial Product Lead. You will work closely with our CEO and VP of Engineering in our first Product role. We have 4 core product pillars (1) APIs & SDKs (2) Command Center (3) Fulfillment Infrastructure (4) Integrated Capital Stack. Over time, you will work across all 4 pillars with an early focus on 2 and 3. You will become intimately familiar with the mortgage origination process (if you're not already).

Scalable software approach first, and operational workaround last. A guiding principle at Pylon is that anything in the backend mortgage process done by a human is a bug. Mortgage is complex, and we can't automate everything right away. You’ll need to surface issues, lead discussion around the best long term solution, document it, and if we need to temporarily create a manual workaround, make everyone aware.

Manage many partners effectively. You will need to oversee numerous 3rd party capital and fulfillment partners to ensure high quality, on time originations. You will need to build deep relationships and drive consistent results.

Have great ideas, and lots of them. You should see opportunities all around you to make the product and team around you better. We’ll provide the environment to act on those ideas.

Be willing to get in the weeds and own the function over time. We expect all leadership team members to execute, not just strategize and hire. You will build out your team over time.

Requirements

Significant experience building 0-1 enterprise software in regulated industries

Ability and interest to dig into mortgage and build a deep understanding of the full value

chain (if you don’t have one already)

Experience conducting user research using a variety of methods

Ability to run SQL queries to analyze user data and identify trends and insights

Experience creating wireframes and workflow diagrams using Figma or similar tools

Strong design sense and ability to work closely with designers to build high-quality products

Ability to effectively manage strategic 3rd party integrations and partners

Experience in leading teams & managing people (can be small or large)

Experience working on mortgage software products and/or fintech infrastructure strongly preferred

We don’t expect you to be an expert in mortgage on day 1. However, it will be imperative over time to become one of the most credible and reliable subject matter experts on the team to be effective in this role.

Must live in or be willing to relocate to the Bay Area (CA) Salary range: $150k-$225k

Specifically, you will:

Own our insights layer: build models and algorithms to generate first-party data. This will include using statistical and machine learning techniques, including LLMs, to generate derived insights as well as determine accurate values from error-prone sources (e.g. headcount information)
Develop data products that improve the discoverability of startups in our database. Create and continually improve the similarity, relevance, and tagging algorithms that power our search engine.
Use your knowledge and creativity to extract as much value out of our data as possible. Make us the most valuable and useful source of information on startups.
Oversee general maintenance and health of data pipelines to ensure accurate and efficient transformations of our data.
Collaborate with the team to devise product goals, outline milestones, and execute plans, achieving this with minimal guidance.

Fluency in Python and SQL

We despise the typical software engineering interview process because it does not align with our day-to-day work. We structured our interview process around pragmatism. Expect us to ask questions closely aligned with the work we expect you to do.

Here’s our interview process:

(30 mins) Introduction Chat: Let's discuss whether Harmonic is the right place for you. We'll review your experience and allocate time for any questions you may have
(30 mins) Hiring Manager Call: Here we focus on accountability, and how much personal ownership one takes of their work.
(Max 5 hours) Take-Home Exercise: We will send you a description of one of our current company challenges and ask you to come up with a creative solution.
(45 minutes each) Team interview: Meet with a member of our Product team to focus on how you would collaborate, and another member of our Engineering team to go over your take-home & conduct a technical assessment.
(2.5 hours) Engineering Jam Session: Detailed discussion of the take-home and digging in deeper to measure technical skills. This will involve coding with 2-3 engineers on our team.
(Async) Reference Checks
(In person) Dinner/Lunch: Get to know Max, our CEO, over dinner! We can only get to know each other so much through video calls. We believe this is a critical hire and believe this investment is necessary. Flight and housing (if needed) are covered.
