We are seeking an experienced &amp; entrepreneurial senior backend engineer to join the founding team to help build our backend services and platform. You'll partner with our CTO to help make key architectural decisions, iterate on the roadmap, own product decisions, and architect &amp; build our foundational tech platform to enable scaling over the next several years.

We are seeking an experienced & entrepreneurial senior backend engineer to join the founding team to help build our backend services and platform. You'll partner with our CTO to help make key architectural decisions, iterate on the roadmap, own product decisions, and architect & build our foundational tech platform to enable scaling over the next several years.

About You:

Voracious learner. You love diving into new areas and exploring new languages, databases, and technologies, and can discuss API design one minute and deployment infrastructure pipelines with tech leads the next.

Value clear communication. You recognize the importance of clear communication, documented planning, and transparent, frequent feedback.

Sweat the small stuff. You have strong opinions on design patterns, IDEs, tabs vs. spaces—you understand that how you do one thing is how you do everything, so you care about the details.

Deep experience building distributed systems. You have designed and built performant, scalable applications, and have expertise in developing APIs, data modeling, optimizing database queries, and scaling distributed systems.

You Will:

Architect and lead the development of our applications, APIs, and distributed systems

Architect & document our tech platform and advise key product & infrastructure decisions

Implement our CI/CD workflows, using Docker & Github

Build analytics & monitoring to help understand our user experience & application health

Contribute in a ton of other ways to a scrappy founding team building the future of flexible light industrial staffing!

You Have:

5+ years experience with Typescript/Node.js or Python, RabbitMQ or Kafka, and PostgreSQL or equivalent

A track record of shipping scalable distributed systems

Experience building APIs

Experience with Docker, Github Actions, and Datadog

Experience working in an early-stage engineering team, working through ambiguity, and being a self-starter

Salary Range Details
The compensation range for this position is set between $160,000 and $190,000, reflecting our market analysis and other relevant considerations. However, exceptions may be made for candidates with qualifications that significantly differ from those outlined in the job description.

About the role

We are looking for a senior frontend-leaning fullstack engineer eager to take over large swaths of our greenfield product roadmap. As one of our early senior hires, you will partner closely with our founders on the direction of our product and drive business-critical technical decisions. You will also ship major product initiatives that fundamentally change the way that Data Scientists and Analysts operate, and have ample technical and team leadership opportunities, depending on your interests.

We aim to deliver an intuitive, delightful experience that is as empowering as it is pleasing to the eye and we have plenty of challenges at all levels of the stack. Some interesting challenges you could work on include:

Designing and building collaborative multiplayer editing of notebooks and applications, including conflict resolution and commenting systems.
Scaling rich, interactive, customizable components to provide a performant, pleasant experience from ten to a hundred or more notebook cells.
Representing complex concepts (e.g. caching, kernel execution state) in a digestible UX that is understandable for users from a variety of backgrounds.
Making chart building delightful whether there are ten data points or a million.
We'd love to hear from you if you have
At least 4+ years of software engineering experience.
Experience leading and executing on major product initiatives.
Excitement for getting your hands dirty and diving deep into how the browser works to develop high-quality and performant user experiences.
An aptitude for how web infrastructure works to develop high-quality internal developer and external user experiences.
An instinct for strategic thinking and aligning with business and product goals while keeping a healthy balance of velocity and engineering excellence.

Work with text, structured/tabular, image/video datasets from companies across diverse industries, and set up large-scale modeling infrastructure at a dynamic startup (0 to 1).

What we’re looking for

Strong software engineering skills and experience productionizing code/models in cloud environments while maintaining the necessary infrastructure. You should be comfortable with large software systems.

Experience in MLOps: processing data, deploying and monitoring models, setting up the necessary infrastructure for Data/AI projects.

Up to date on the latest advances in Generative AI (LLMs, LVMs)

Responsibilities
Spin up cloud infrastructure for ML projects spanning text, image, and structured/tabular datasets.
Work on large-scale Data/AI projects with Cleanlab enterprise customers, from inception to production.
Work as individual contributor tech lead on a ML team of around 5.
Innovate on new algorithmic techniques to improve a dataset, leveraging the newest Foundation model advances.
Qualifications

This is a senior role! Candidates must have at least 5+ years work experience in ML. Schoolwork or general data science work does not count, you should have tackled hard MLOps challenges at companies dealing with massive datasets, reliable model serving, cloud infrastructure, etc.
