Prior to Cleanlab, our founders (3 ML PhDs from MIT) worked at OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, AWS, Facebook AI Research (FAIR), Dropbox, Oculus, Palantir, NASA, General Electric, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, MIT, Harvard, and Stanford – at every place we worked we repeatedly encountered the same issue – AI solutions failed to work reliably on real-world, human-centric data due to label errors and poor data quality. So, we spent eight years of PhD research at MIT inventing a new field to solve this problem and after successful pilots with world-leading organizations, Cleanlab emerged.

Everything we do at Cleanlab is guided by our north star – to improve the world’s ML data more easily and quicker than any other solution – enabling AI systems to train more reliably on real-world, messy, error-prone data. We develop next-generation data-centric AI, open-source algorithms and provide no-code SaaS enterprise solutions to help individuals and teams at companies (across all industries) diagnose/fix issues in their datasets and produce more reliable ML models by providing clean labels for training.

## **What you will work on**

- Design and train models to run multi-step workflows by operating software directly (via keyboard and mouse) and calling APIs.
- Experiment with and fine-tune existing ML models to find the right balance between size, accuracy and speed.
- Design benchmarks to improve our understanding of data and model performance.
- Build low latency inference infrastructure for speech, language and reasoning models.
- Everyone on the founding team is expected to work extremely closely with our customers.

## Must haves

- 3+ years of experience working on deep learning.
- 5+ years of professional experience.
- Strong Python programmer, and expertise in ML frameworks e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow.
- Experience building, deploying and running ML infrastructure.
- Familiarity with the state of the art LLMs and their strengths/weaknesses.
- Experience doing 0-to-1 work on ML models and infrastructure.
- High level of autonomy and self-direction.

## Nice to haves

- Experience training, fine-tuning and prompt engineering generative models and LLMs.
- Experience with vector databases, embedding models and built real-world RAG pipeline construction.
- Used and tuned ASR and TTS models.
- You have deeply thought about or tinkered with LAM models—agents that can reason and perform actions to accomplish tasks.
- Experience working at early-stage and fast-growing companies.

About the role

We are looking for a senior frontend-leaning fullstack engineer eager to take over large swaths of our greenfield product roadmap. As one of our early senior hires, you will partner closely with our founders on the direction of our product and drive business-critical technical decisions. You will also ship major product initiatives that fundamentally change the way that Data Scientists and Analysts operate, and have ample technical and team leadership opportunities, depending on your interests.

We aim to deliver an intuitive, delightful experience that is as empowering as it is pleasing to the eye and we have plenty of challenges at all levels of the stack. Some interesting challenges you could work on include:

Designing and building collaborative multiplayer editing of notebooks and applications, including conflict resolution and commenting systems.
Scaling rich, interactive, customizable components to provide a performant, pleasant experience from ten to a hundred or more notebook cells.
Representing complex concepts (e.g. caching, kernel execution state) in a digestible UX that is understandable for users from a variety of backgrounds.
Making chart building delightful whether there are ten data points or a million.
We'd love to hear from you if you have
At least 4+ years of software engineering experience.
Experience leading and executing on major product initiatives.
Excitement for getting your hands dirty and diving deep into how the browser works to develop high-quality and performant user experiences.
An aptitude for how web infrastructure works to develop high-quality internal developer and external user experiences.
An instinct for strategic thinking and aligning with business and product goals while keeping a healthy balance of velocity and engineering excellence.
Interest in the data space, and a love of shipping great products and building tools that empower end users to do more.
Experience maintaining a high quality bar for design, correctness, and testing.
An ability to lead product initiatives while collaborating and mentoring fellow engineers.
Curiosity and an interest in diving into the bigger picture of building a company, including go-to-market, customer development, people, and marketing.

This role will be hybrid (1-2 days per week in office) based out of one of our hub locations, currently in San Francisco and NYC.
